Lydia Khasoa
b. 04/08/99
Lydia was brought to our attention when a visit was made to the Special Unit in the local Primary School. A teacher told how Lydia was kept at home in her village but was discovered and brought to school. Being Blind comes with much stigmatism and even rejection. The family are unable to afford for Lydia to attend a specialised school and due to the circumstances are very happy for her to attend a boarding school where she will be supported. She is a bright girl who learns quickly but needs to be taught by specialists so that she is able to communicate more effectively, learn Braille and have a greater future. A visitor from Australia who met Lydia on one of the visits to the support unit felt to support Lydia to attend a School for the Visually Impaired. We are in the process of finding her an appropriate placement in a school for the Visually Impaired. Since completing this form Lydia has now been enrolled in Kibos, School for the Blind, Boarding School in Kisumu.
